Kelechi Onukogu is a Managing Director and has led several businesses across the Corporate and Investment Bank, Commercial Banking and Enterprise Functions in the capacity of Risk and Controls / COO. He has sat as a member of the Operating Committee and accountable for the supervision and management of all front line risk activities across financial and non-financial risk types globally.
A senior risk and control expert with a career that spans 23 years, Kelechi recently spent the last three years at Wells Fargo as EMEA Head of Risk and Controls for CIB & Enterprise Functions, sitting on several Legal Entity Boards and Board Risk committees, Executive Committees and being the face-off to the local regulators on the front to back risk & control profile of the Bank. Prior to that he was at Barclays, where he spent 5 years in the investment bank and group chief controls office, leading multiple initiatives for the control design and execution framework team. Prior to Barclays, he worked at JP Morgan for nearly 4 years in the Treasury business where he led the liquidity product risk and control team across EMEA and prior to that he spent 10 years at Deutsche Bank, where he kicked off his career in Banking working across Finance, Global Markets and Corporate Finance businesses.
Kelechi has a bachelor’s of science in management science with computing and accounting from the University of Kent, Canterbury and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.
Kelechi has a passion for Diversity & Inclusion, and played a pivotal role in creating and co-chairing, the UK Barclays Black Professional Forum (BPF) and his team won the ‘Inclusion Champion’ category in the 2019 Citizenship and Diversity Awards. At the height of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement in summer of 2020, he was appointed as the global head for the ‘Race at Work agenda’ sitting in group HR to design & execute the strategic framework for Barclays. Most recently Kelechi was appointed Executive Sponsor for the UK Race at Work in October 2021 at Wells Fargo, where he was accountable for designing the strategy and driving the embedment across the Bank’s colleagues, community and clients.
